Afrena (Goddess, Ruler)

Thoughts in my Head

Thoughts traveling through my mind at the speed of light

Looking like mr right now after playing like mr right

Soul has been shot down like a thief in the night

To resurrect something this potent gotta use third sight

That’s third eye view seeing everything you think I don’t

Better say what you mean cause your eyes say you won’t

Smiling on the outside, but I’m intrigued by what’s within

Acting like a nice guy, your body language begging me to sin

Will I give you a glimpse of heaven or let your intentions send you to hell

Portraying to be different but I know your type very well

I got the love that can free man from even the most tethered of spells

Do you believe in magic ? Only time will tell….

Born to Lead

"Afrena Denise Taylor, born to Dr. Alfred and Denise Taylor who is on the board of creators, has been nominated as this years chairperson and will be inducted by none other than her parents."

This day was the best day of my life, I became the youngest chairman in the black rich society and have officially earned the respect of my parents. That may not be on many peoples list, but on mine it was number 1. My parents have been through so much and I have been a first hand witness to the plights they’ve made for the African American caucus.

Behind that Dr title both my parents hold, they have many other credentials that hold honor in the black community alone. Activist, revolutionary, and prophet just to name a few. He taught me even though we are in America, my culture will be embedded in me.

That day was also the worse day of my life. I knew it would be life changing because it rained all day. Didn’t rain all week but that day I had prayed for no rain. That day I lost both parents to a car accident leaving my inaugural ball. Life changed dramatically. I had just turned 18 and the weight of the world was already on my shoulders.

See I was secure behind my parents knowing I at least had another 30 years to live up to their legacy. But now, all I have is their legacy and I was stripped of their guidance, the thing I truly needed the most.

I still cry to this day, hell as I write because I can’t believe how far I’ve come from this day. I had to take over EVERYTHING and at this time I wish I had a sibling to shoulder this pain. The foundation they laid was so intentional, it made me miss them even more.

They were so prepared for everything that they both had written me letters for this time. Short but so sweet it could fuel their absence for a lifetime. That's a powerful statement, but my parents were powerful people and that just doesn’t die.

From Mom:

My dearest baby girl, my only. You are the best thing I could imagine and if you’re reading this that means I must give you the best parts of me. I am not perfect, I am not without fear, and I am not without love. Because of you I get to be a version of perfection. Because of you I get the chance to be fearless. Because of you I know unconditional love, the love that will remain even after I’m gone. Included in this letter is a copy of my recipes, my rituals, and my readings and writings. Those will get you through what my absence can not. I love you baby girl… Until Later

From Dad:

I know better than to try to outdo your mama because who the hell can , right ? But in the event of my absence I want you to know a few things. I want you to know you are loved, our love does not end after this life. You have made us the proudest parents, not for what you do but who you are. You are everything you should be, always having that sparkle in your eye for life. Included is a book your mother had made, it has pictures and all my words of wisdom to you. I also left you the codes to everything in that book, you know what to do. My Deepest Love -BIG Papa

I cried for months before I felt safe enough to leave the house. I knew they were the only ones who truly loved me. I read their letters everyday and even write different responses when I miss them. I currently am still chairperson and over all my parents prior affairs.

It keeps them close at heart.

My final thoughts are

  1. A solid foundation can get you through ANYTHING

  2. Parents are to be cherished and never taken for granted

  3. ALWAYS embed your culture in your children, they NEED it

  4. Anything is possible, nothing is impossible

I am the best parts of my parents legacy and that’s a damn good feeling.

You never know your strength until its time to be strong, so be strong
